Your mind wandered during self-hypnosis. Did you ruin it?
No. You noticed it—and that gives you the opportunity to practise one of the most useful self-hypnosis skills: deliberately returning your attention.
In this one-minute exercise, I’ll show you how to work with ordinary thoughts, sounds and sensations without trying to force your mind into silence.
Stay until the end and notice how many times your attention moves. The aim is not perfect concentration or a spectacular trance. It is learning how to redirect your attention without criticising yourself for possessing a functioning human brain.
Try it now, then tell me in the comments: how many times did your attention wander—and how easily did you return?
