“If I helped it happen, was I only pretending?”

That question trips up plenty of people learning self-hypnosis.

We often expect a response to happen entirely by itself—and then dismiss anything we knowingly contributed to. In this short guided exercise, we compare deliberately moving a finger with responding to a suggestion. The interesting part is how the two experiences feel. Does the movement involve less effort? Does the sensation change? Does it feel more automatic—or does nothing noticeable happen? Try both stages and stay for the explanation at the end. It matters more than how high your finger rises. This is an exploration, not a hypnotisability test. Your finger will not receive a certificate.

Tell me what you noticed: deliberate, automatic, somewhere between—or no noticeable change?
