Thanks for those wise words Roy.

Your story is indeed an inspiring one and I it certainly motivates me!

There is no real short cut or easy route, in my opinion, people often want to be at the perfect fitness end of the journey before they have begun. A couple of things I would add though - start out relaxed and slow - that is, don't try and keep up with people, get tired and have to stop. Research and get the right pace and understanding of your own body and work your way up towards your goals at a good pace.

If you have the right information, along with self-motivation and drive, then you are going to be well on your way.

Thanks again Roy, always great hearing from you :-)

ALOHA FROM NY!!! (Nothing to do with NY, but was thinking how to bring my NY attitude in writing).

Fantastic strategy Adam. As a runner myself who lost 150lbs, sometime I'm still figuring out what exactly gets me out so I can use it on the cold days as well.

One thing I know, using my story has helped many people run, lose weight and even run for a cause.

But one thing I learned from running, if you want to get to the finish line, you have to move, you want to get there faster, you have to move faster and if you want to be able to move faster (and not get hurt), you have to be prepared.

Hahaha, I love that Mark Twain quote :-)

I have had shin splints on 4 separate occasions, they are a nightmare... and the only thing I ever did that worked in getting the shins better, was resting. No amount of ice, calf supports, insoles or orthotics ever made them better, just rest and stopping running for a period of time.

A 3:25 marathon is brilliant! You'll nail the half marathon, let me know what event you enter and I may go and enter too! If you fancy a fun half marathon, come and join me at the Bacchus marathon (you can do the full or half marathon on the day) in September. It is run around a Surrey Vineyard and there is lots of great wine and BBQ action to be had on the day too!

Best wishes, A.

Am in awe of your running discipline Adam. Very inspiring.

Unfortunately I've been recently following Mr Mark Twain's practise with regard to exercise "Whenever I get the urge to exercise I lie down until it goes away" (actually Twain didn't say that it was Robert Maynard Hutchins).
[Note: this doesn't apply to my tennis though - which I am mad about].

Main issues are always: cold, weather and.... injury (shin splints anyone?)

Did do a 3:25 marathon when I was younger (with not much training) - so I'm going to do some "as-if" about a decent time on a half marathon for the summer!

Cheers
