Hi Sue,

There is a link to my own weight consultation page in the main body of the article above, though there are many other therapists who offer similar services, I'd be inclined to seek one out who you feel resonates with you.

Likewise with seminars, you could google my friend Gary Turner (former world champion sportsman and hypnotherapist) who runs very impressive evidence based seminars and workshops, for example. I'd recommend exploring and searching for weight reduction workshops that contain a psychological approach.

You might also enjoy Judith Beck's book "The Beck Diet" as it has a cognitive therapy approach to weight reduction which I strongly support and advcocate.

I hope that helps further, best wishes to you, Adam.

Thank you Afraz, I sent you a private email reply following your email, did you get it?

I am reluctant to simply recommend one technique for one issue. As a general rule, I'd want to take more into account; the type of person, the nature of the confidence issue, as well as the evidence base supporting the technique. I think the Swish technique can certainly be useful, as can mental rehearsal, but I'd be inclined to create a programme of change to advance confidence; including a range of techniques, behavioural exercises and congnitive processes that all contribute to a comprehensive and multi faceted approach to advancing your confidence.

Have a great day, reply to my email when you get a chance and I can help you with that earlier email query in more detail.

My best wishes to you, Adam.

Hello Adam

Thank you very much for taking the time to point me in the right direction. I have ordered Martin Seligman's book.

You mention classes and other kinds of resources, I would be very grateful if you could spare a moment to guide me towards some.

Best wishes

Hi Adam,

Firstly I would like to thank you for the amazing work you do in the hypnosis arena. Your book The Science of Self Hypnosis is outstanding - really excellent!

This is a unrelated question so please do forgive me I experience a lack of confidence in social situations especially in group settings. I've recently moved to a new city where the only job I could get is a sales cold calling job (I set appointments by cold calling business's). I want to improve my confidence in this area. I have read Derren Brown's book Tricks of the Mind and he reccomendes the Swish Pattern from NLP. I have read your book and the mental rehearsal process you mention seems powerful.

I suppose I'm asking which technique would you reccomend. They both seem to overlap.

Do you think if I tried the swish technique it would help me improve my self confidence? Is it a technique you still use or have you stopped using it in favour of the mental rehearsal technique you mention in your book?

I so very much look forward to your reply. Have a great weekend!

Regards,

Hello Sue,

Well, in order to be a self-starter you could research for yourself, read books, explore the topic and see what the evidence suggests. The chapter on the subject in the book by Martin Seligman 'WHat You Can Change and WHat You Can't' for example is very good in my opinion (and so is my own Science of Self-Hypnosis book, in my very biased opinion).

You could seek help from someone such as myself or one of the many other hypnotherapists, psychologists, psychotherapists, coaches and practitioners, depending on your preference. There are plenty to choose from.

There are classes and all kinds of other resources out there. Send me an email if you need any more specific assistance.

Best wishes to you, Adam.
