Good metaphors at the end of your article. Treading water, whether literally to keep from drowning or figuratively to wait for conditions to change, is a stopgap method. Either way we are waiting for someone or something to rescue us. Much better to assert self-responsibility and take action. We can’t make progress while waiting for progress to be made.

Cool post Adam. I had to move my Hypnotherapy business from Scotland to closer to London but have been treading water under the guise of further study (which I have done) but can’t find the motivation to pull the pin! I have a young family and have a passive income, but really love being a hypnotherapist and coach. How do I find the balance?

Thank you Adam! Just wanted I needed to hear. Been treading water for years now and have been stuck telling myself I need to make a decision. But it seems to get fuzzy and unclear on what I should do so I tread water some more. When I have stepped out and it didn’t work the way I thought I went back to treading water. This message has come at precisely the right time. Eye opening. Have heard this principle about enjoying the journey and not trying to jump ahead to when it will all be good many times. Truly grateful for your post when I am now ready to really hear it. An “aha” moment.
