On the other hand Andy, it might be a spot-on, perfect translation and he may have actually used the exact words quoted, no?

Also, is falling into a deep, dark hole really what you’d want someone to be thinking about if you were attempting to hypnotically seduce?

Would you want to use the idea of a deep dark hole to hypnotise even if it were not for seduction?

I don’t think so.

I think the guy probably now wishes he had such a hole to climb into though…. 🙂

My guess is that he said something like:
“Imagine that you fall into a deep, dark hole. You fall deeper and deeper”
My guess is that the woman involved was interviewed and asked what the hypnotist had said, and she responded “He said something about a black hole and plunging deeper” (first filter)
The journalist then writes his article (second filter), and then the article is translated (third filter, and a distortion filter at that)

The original words may have been quite valid (although sleazy). The translation is funny though. It makes it sound like he shouted at her

Well all I meant Andy was that if the guys mother tongue was English for example… And you were spoken to using these terms and words, then you may not respond in the manner that the hypnotist required or desired.

The story simply highlighted that.

Words are our tools and the right choice of them heightens or dissipates trance states on occasion. 🙂

None the less, the semantics used here – poorly translated or not – serve to show us a thing or two, do they not?

I’ll tell that one to the lads down the pub, see if they find it useful on a saturday night. That story just makes me think of a South Korean Kenny the hypnotist (from Little Britain)
