I always liked the idea of hypnotherapy, but have yet to try it. I liked the one comment, " I just sat there thinking how ludicrous it all was." Seriously? If you take a pain medication, and you think its a fake, your going to be feeling those pains still just because your mind is telling you they should be there. If you are going to try something, believe in the possibility that it will work.

Sure, I get that. The information that informs the public comes from somewhere too though, doesn't it? The people that do have more than a passing interest could therefore consider informing themselves better perhaps? So that myth and misconception stop being drip-fed.

Believe it or not, this was not meant to be a rant, though yeah, most people could have this type of examination about how the public perceive their field - I think my beloved field of hypnosis would benefit greatly if more of the right information worked itself into the awareness of the masses.

Perhaps I need to get some mass subliminal TV beaming mega hypnosis rays to educate them all via their collective intertwined subconscious minds? ;-)

"All models are wrong, but some of them are useful" - George E. P. Box

It's our role as professionals to understand the science and evidence behind our practice, but we can't expect the general public to choose to be fully educated in a field they have only a passing interest in.
You could have this rant about any specialised subject. Here are a few that I have observed; quantum physics, particle physics (particularly the Large Hadron Collider), vaccines, cancer.

Keep calm and carry on :-)
