Ha, yes Chris… Though I think it is a common misconception among many (even well educated) people about hypnosis being not dissimilar to being under anaesthesia… Which is a crying shame of course. Thanks, good to hear from you.

Braid defined hypnotism as focused attention on a dominant expectant idea. It would seem odd to describe someone as being “under” their own focused attention, expectation, or imagination. When someone is daydreaming (or meditating) we don’t say: “He’s gone under!”
