Some great content there - many thanks!

I think it's important to consider the nature and function of the bubble we create for ourselves or for clients; a totally impervious bubble is not always helpful!

I like to think of my own bubble like a gore-tex membrane in a waterproof coat: it keeps the emotional rain of others out yet allows me to breathe.

When working with others I like to create the idea of a bubble or shield that can adapt to circumstances, yet does not inhibit their daily life. I was working with a child client recently and we were looking at how different superheroes and film characters have shields: he liked Captain America's shield because it covered his back and could quickly detach to deflect attacks. It could also be used as a weapon and returned to his hand as a loyal partner - this was most important to him.

He also liked the shield generators used in the star wars films and how they could be turned on in an instant.

If we listen, the metaphors for the shield or protective bubble that is most appropriate for the individual are there to guide us.

That's one of my favourite metaphors - I stole it from you a couple of years ago, and I use it all the time. I also tell my clients, "If there's anything you're finished with, that you don't need any more, you can take it and press it up against the bubble and allow it to pass through, out of your life." then I have them replace it with something positive and wonderful.
