Yeah, I'll be needing some therapy for my propensity for and need of a black and white conclusion to every discussion I have... ;-)

You have a great New Year too Nath.

Thank you Nathan, very much appreciate your contribution.

While I think that any discussions I am ever involved in with regards to what hypnosis actually is, tend to be never-ending... What you say echoes much of my own thought.

The notion of hypnosis being a non-deceptive placebo, is one which some in the field are keen to dismiss, though it resonates very well with me and is becoming central to my therapeutic work these days.

I guess we need more research that we can add to our own growing experience and maybe I'll feel more comfortable really offering up some more finite notions.

Good hearing from you, happy New Year :-)

I remember reading about Richard Bandler trying to market a product simply called 'Placebo' to be sold in chemists / drug stores. For some reason, the FDA said "no."

I'n some ways I think that hypnosis is exactly that - a placebo which people know is a placebo. It is, afterall, the process of change brought about through suggestions which the client's imagination makes real.

As long as people are hooked by the ritual through which the placebo is given - be in the Dr in a white coat or the ancient Shaman waving his sticks, provided there is belief in the power of suggestion, maybe placebo's will work even without the trickery aspect?

Many thanks for an interesting and thought provoking post!
Best wishes,
Nathan
