i read widely, and your article is the most important thing presently on the internet. people have no, (or choose not have) understanding of how profound an impact this book has on the day to day life of people - not least in engendering a climate of perceived poor "mental health" that can only be rescued by toxic pharmacy.

as hypnotherapists, we stand before a mighty and venomous tide - i wish more of us were as deeply versed in the nuance of the task ahead.

my contribution is as yet a pale shadow of yours. i simply care, and have the benefit of some small wisdom and vision.

Thanks for this blog - you outline the main onbjection I have to the entire practice of so called mental health - the application of archetype and statistics (measured subjectively by the practitioner, i note) to subjective experiences of reality.

People are entitled to their emotions, they are an essential party of our experience of reality. If a person has impulsivity, distractability, recklessness, irresponsibility then their are causes that can be addressed without pharmacy or inapprorpriate labelling with "disorders" or "maladaptive"..

Likewise I can very easily look at "Antisocial/Psychopathic types have inflated grandiosity and a pervasive pattern of taking advantage of other people". (many middle managers, CEOs and politicians ) Avoidant types are inhibited from forming and maintaining relationships out of fears of humiliation and rejection. (This is not a disorder, this is an unresolved set of traumas) Borderline types show intense emotionality, impulsivity, internal feelings of emptiness, and fears of rejection (again, there is cause, and no need for drugs necessarily).

Obsessive-compulsive types are hyperfocused on details and are excessively stubborn, rigid, and moralistic (perfectionism is routinely treated with hypnotherapy). Schizotypal types are characterized by odd thinking and appearances or confused states. (Who defines odd thinking? conservatives think liberals are odd and vice versa, does that mean they should all be chemically be lobotmised? Confusion is not a mental disorder unless so pronounced at all times so as to constitute a helath risk, eg advanced alzheimers)

There is no more insidious threat to the emotional health of the population than this kind of mass mind control masquerading as medicine. Of course there are peole who need "help" but it is a convenient falsehood that is being pushed into mass consciousness by this unscrupulous industry that people are badly broken and need drugs and an extended relationship with a psychiatrist to get "well"

Note: psychiatry has never cured anybody, and gets statistically speaking, substantially worse results than hypnotherapy (2006 American Health magazine) with no wide invasion of deep personal privacy or need for drugs.

Bottom line - a group of men are rewriting a book that has been held as "gospel truth", and will rewrite it again - your health, be it emotional, mental, physical or spiritual or physical is YOUR OWN. be wary of outsourcing it to people who cure nothing and treat people like a grand chemistry experiment before changing their mind about medical "truth" after incalculable damage has been done to your mind/body system.

Great work Adam, as always - I hope that this debate carries into the wider public consciousness -for their sake.
