I don’t care about whether he is an emeritus or not… In fact today, I have spouted on about people posing in these roles attempting to frame alternative therapies in a particular way….

My issue comes from people like Madonna giving health advice, and I simply was quoting an example given by the authors.

I am open and aware of having a healthy lymph system and thank you for highlighting that in much more detail here.

I don’t know who Carol Caplin is or the context of what she said:
“celebrity lifestyle guru Carol Caplin, for example, who recently talked about “the importance of keeping the lymph system clear and unclogged” to help prevent breast cancer” ……..but…I’m a little surprised that you (of all my favourite people) wasn’t just a little bit more open minded…y’know, listening for the real info behind the words.

Here is a quote from http://www.cancer.ca: “The breasts also contain lymph vessels and lymph nodes, which are part of the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system helps fight infections. Lymph vessels move lymph fluid to the lymph nodes. Lymph nodes trap bacteria, cancer cells and other harmful substances. There are groups of lymph nodes near the breast under the arm, near the collarbone and in the chest behind the breastbone.”

So, first of all,it seems that it is important for anyone to keep their lymph system clear and unclogged.

But my guess is maybe she got things a bit twisted and was referring to the serious problem of lymphedema. Most people who have had a mastectomy also have many lymph nodes removed at the same time. They are biopsied to gauge the spread of the breast cancer.

Lymphema is a serious problem – arms and hands swell up with lymph fluid that cannot leave the body as it would if all the lymph nodes were in place. Lymph fluid protects the body from infection. Some have to wear special gloves or compression sleeves; sometimes specialized physical therapy is needed. It’s a big issue with breast cancer people.

So-o…maybe… and I’m just wondering if…she did know a little of what she was talking about…if someone had just listened a little bit better…and maybe…not been hypnotised by the power and prestige of “emeritus professor of surgery at University College London”.
